Crown lifting raises the height of the living canopy by removing or shortening the lower branches of the tree. It is one of the most common forms of tree work, providing clearance for vehicles, pedestrians, buildings and gardens.

Road & Path Clearance

We regularly lift crowns over roads, paths and driveways to achieve the clearance height required by highways authorities or to simply make access easier.

Building Clearance

Low branches brushing against roofs, gutters and walls can cause real damage over time. Crown lifting creates the clearance needed to protect your property.

More Light Below

Raising the canopy lets more light into gardens and properties, improving growing conditions for grass and plants underneath the tree.

How Crown Lifting Works

Crown lifting is achieved by removing the lower branches entirely, or by removing only those lateral shoots that extend below the desired clearance height. The technique used depends on the species, age and overall structure of the tree. We assess each tree individually and recommend the safest, most sympathetic approach. As a general guide, it is not advisable to remove more than 15% of the living crown height in a single operation.
